MD Productions NCFE level 1 and 2 college Course

MD Productions offers a full time college course providing the NCFE qualification level 1 (GCSE equivalent) and level 2 (NVQ equivalent) in performing arts. The course is available for two age groups, 14- 16 years and sixth form students.

The NCFE course covers key areas in the performing industry giving the students an insight and knowledge into many different subjects.

The students cover dance, drama, background to theatre, auditioning skills, fashion, hair and theatrical make up, lighting and sound, confidence building, communication skills, positive attitude and focus and keeping fit while on the college course.

As an added feature to the course the college students go on many day trips with the Company dancers to private shows and appearances. This enables the students to gain knowledge on what work is required to organise an event and gives them experience working in a professional environment.

The college students also perform extra routines in all of the MD Productions shows which allows them to gain more experience in the performing arts world than many other performing arts colleges.

Some examples of the subjects the college course covers are as follows:

Dance

Dance will be a main focus on this course specialising in Doforo Technique which is at the forefront of dance today. The students will take part in weekly dance classes using music by today’s leading pop, rap and hip hop artists. During the course students will learn what is needed to create their own dance piece and become a choreographer. As a group the students will have a chance to create their own dance piece which will be performed at the end of the course in a theatre in Liverpool.

Drama

Drama helps increase the students’ ability of working with others, speaking to an audience and reading from a script. The students will start by acting out pieces from there favourite films or theatre shows, then will go on to creating there own script and will also create what is known as a technical script, which is what is used for theatre crew i.e. director or backstage staff.

Background to Theatre

Background to theatre will give the students an insight into running a performance from backstage, a chance to build sets, learn how to book a theatre or venue, how you market an event, promotion, designing posters and flyers, creating running orders, working as part of a theatre team and helping people to and from their dressing rooms in a professional manner.

Auditioning Skills

This teaches the students how they should attend an audition for a part as a dancer, actor, model etc. How they should present themselves and what questions they should ask.

Fashion, Hair, Make Up and Creative Styling

The college students will take part in many workshops on how to style projects at MD Productions including singers, dancers, actors, and models or creating costumes for full productions, learning about fashion, fabrics, hair styling and product use. At the end of this section each student will have the chance to put forward their own ideas and style one of our many pop acts.

Lighting and Sound

The students will be creating their own lighting set for one of the many productions you will take part in; learning about how to use sound, record music in a recording studio and using sound fro a production using microphones, working with a sound engineer and how to set up and use a PA system.

Healthy Eating and Keeping Fit

Performing arts takes up a lot of time and uses a lot of energy. We will discuss the effects that dancing/ performing has on weight control and the well being of a performer.
